SENEGAL'S AUDACIOUS BULLYING—
THAT’S WHY WE'RE FORGAMBIA!

[It has been Senegal's hellbent obsession]...to (1) close off Gambian re-export trade to Senegal and (2) to have a bridge on the trans-Gambia highway linking Dakar to the two southern provinces of Senegal."

We write this in simple English for all with senses to see. According to an international group, since the days of Jawara, “The Senegalese authorities ultimately wanted a unitary state, and pushed for customs union as a transitional phase. They were frustrated by their inability to realize their immediate objectives, 1) to close off Gambian re-export trade to Senegal and 2) to have a bridge on the trans-Gambia highway linking Dakar to the two southern provinces of Senegal.”
“Gambian authorities would like closer cooperation of development planning policies, but vowed never to consent to be swallowed up by Senegal. They were dubious about the value of customs union, especially if it was designed to cut off one of the most important areas of their economy – the reexport trade to the Casamance. They were wiling to explore the options only if the viability of their economy and the natural economic geography of the region were taken into account.”
The above quotations are from Global Security, a U.S based group of experts on defense, space and intelligence policy. I asked Pa Nderry Mbaye to allow me read these lines live on air when Barrow was still new in office for a reason. I have been saying this on air, forever! Sometimes I get vehement attacks from angry, anti-truth Senegalese exploiters.
Even though Senegal now has what it never dreamt of, [a puppet president and above all, a dummy leader in The Gambia], Senegalese authorities are still gung-ho on sucking Gambia’s blood. The mildest of our three presidents was Sir Dawda Jawara. But he drew a line for Senegal not to cross!
That’s why he never allowed the bridge to be built. S.M Dibba was another great advocate against the Senegalese venal way. Then came little boy Jammeh whom they thought was just a high school grad and knew nothing about geopolitics.
Alas, Jammeh became the dare-evil Nebuchadnezzar across Senegalese authorities’ mercantile throat of bully-Gambia-in-all spheres of life—from entertainment sport, international entrepreneurship, to Senegalese soldiers illegally entering Gambian territory and almost firing shots at our Gambian soldiers at Darsilameh few months ago.
And somebody wants to tell us Adama Barrow really cares about Gambia? Besides, Senegalese hands are snatching our fish and other resources away from numerous hungry Gambians who depend on that trade, again, mainly for simple subsistence! All this is happening with skyrocketing commodity prices in The Gambia, ushering in an unprecedented high cost of living!
And someone wants to preach that Adama Barrow cares? The cashew business route between Gambia and Casamance has been shut down by Senegalese authorities. All timber entering from Casamance to Gambia is seized and sent to Dakar.
As if that isn’t enough, timber harvested on Gambian soil is seized by Senegalese authorities…I repeat on Gambian soil and taken to Senegal. And someone wants to keep hallucinating that Adama Barrow cares? Or Macky Sall is a good neighbor with Gambia’s simple, basic interests?
Reader, please we don’t have time to be saying the same thing since the early days of Barrow, an example of which includes a day we were perceived to be crying on air! To you hawkish Senegalese authorities, you’re seriously lucky we’re not interested in running for office in The Gambia! We have said that too a billion times!
Why do we do what we do, even though not for profit, name, or glory? Because when we look at that poor market woman in the muddy streets of Serrekunda, Bakau, or Brikama shouting her wares of okra or dried fish just for subsistence (and not a Walmart-type profit) it torments our persons. We want that impoverished woman’s life to improve. Senegalese authorities don’t and can’t want that. But Gambians will take their country back from this second colonization, We guarantee! We say no more!
