We welcome good foreign nationals in our country. But not the likes of Ousman Camara or James Camara, the Sierra Leonean national alleging on camera that he was attacked by UDP supporters, a trick that would have set our country on fire! Where are patriotic Gambians, please? He lied they attacked him because of Ousainou Darboe! Clearly, he was blaming UDP’s Ousainou Darboe for his ordeal with the youths when Darboe or UDP people had no idea what went on. Before this Camara, Adama Barrow’s NPP went to Senegal and brought foreign nationals to boost his rally.
Taking advantage of our hospitality, James Camara donned an NPP t-shirt. And he knew Gambia’s current tinderbox, viz, the ultra-flammable situation between Gambia’s two rivalry titans—Ousainou Darboe and President Adama Barrow and the followers they both command.
James Camara knew we Gambians are some of West Africa’s low-IQ folks. To pit us against one another in a civil war would be very easy, at least in the head of James Camara. If we Gambians were intelligent enough, why can’t the police question him the following?
- Are you a Gambian citizen?
- If not, why are you wearing a political t-shirt, accusing a major political party in a time of very serious and tense political situation, or better put, a crucial election year?
- What exactly did you do or say to warrant these youths attacking you?
Sierra Leone, our sister nation, suffered a very terrible civil war throughout the nineties. Camara should know better! But this is our problem with many Gambians: our security officials and most citizens have very little clue about this modern age. This man would have set Gambia on fire!
Yes, he would have set Gambia on fire! He knew very well that perhaps, Gambia is the only country with a government like Adama Barrow’s where creepy foreigners have been encouraged to take part in our volatile domestic politics. There are some foreigners in the Gambia right now who know that the easiest way to make it in our country is to shout Adama Barrow’s praises or provoke his opponents!
We have written editorials, bringing the world’s attention to political situations in the Gambia. For the first time in our history, foreigners are encouraged by a sitting government to usurp our indigenous rights—from Kalillu Waggeh to now James Camara. Please tell us if anything like this happened in Jawara or Jammeh’s time!
James Camara and others knew there is a tense political situation to exploit. They won’t care how many Gambians die in a potential civil or political strife. But our police should care, please. People like James Camara are opportunists who will do anything to set a country on fire. Please, our necessary authorities shouldn’t let that happen! Please set a serious example with James Camara!
The allegations he had against Ousainou Darboe are far from true! This isn’t close to last month’s Capitol Hill storming where a political leader instigated a violent mob against a nation’s legislature! Did Darboe address any rally or deliver any speech to a mob before James Camara’s ordeal? I used to talk to Gambians on air, reminding them of our country’s dire situation! We are losing our country, minute by minute!
And our Gambian media can’t see the danger in this and carry out journalistic functions. Of course this is another indication that we have the dumbest crop of so-called journalists in The Gambia who can’t fathom what is really important and pressing! We have a gov’t importing people from foreign countries to cheer their rallies and you don’t think that’s worth continuous coverage?
We have a gov’t soliciting and encouraging foreign interference in our seminal issues and you don’t think that’s some serious area of special coverage? And now a lying agent provocateur is trying to set our country on fire and your coverage angle on it is tilted otherwise. Shame on you! Seriously!
