NYASSI, JAH SHED LIGHT ON ILLEGAL SENEGALESE MILITARY OCCUPATION IN FONI

"I’m not condemning checkpoints for security but the amount of abuses by the Senegalese forces is unacceptable and uncalled for."

The National Assembly member for Foni Kansala Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi has, in an exclusive interview with forGambia-Friday decried and condemned the appalling human rights abuses and intimidation of the people of Foni by an occupying and hostile Senegalese troops in the area.
The same troops, on June 3rd 2017 opened fire and killed Foni native Haruna Jatta. No one has been arrested or brought to justice for the killing. Another Foni driver was shot at close range by another military personnel earlier this year in the same region of the country.
“My people are intimidated and asked to perform monkey dance anytime they’ve an issue with these Senegalese soldiers. Even our animals are not spared. They catch and slaughter them at their base and if we asked them, they make us perform monkey dance and under go a lot of torture,” stated the area’s legislator, Hon. Amul Nyassi.
The presence of special Senegalese forces in Foni was unknown to them until when the ECOMIG contingent in The Gambia said the soldiers in Foni “are not part of” them.
Hon. Nyassi said one old man in Foni was made to perform monkey dance only to go home and couldn’t come out from his room again. As we speak the old man is still undergoing such a horrible pain. We’ve complained bitterly to the relevant government authorities but until today nothing is forthcoming yet.
“I’m not condemning checkpoints for security but the amount of abuses by the Senegalese forces is unacceptable and uncalled for,” Nyassi lamented.
