LOOK AT BRIKAMA MARKET, PLEASE!

Please Gambians, look at the Brikama market while our government officials are driving fancy cars, traveling so frequently outside the country, and being paid fortunes in per diem!

And sad of all, each local woman roaming or sitting anywhere around this horrible market pays what the area council calls, “Duty,” a toll for selling anything, including few bunches of “Nanaa” leaves or “Kutchaa.”
And again, none of those women sell those commodities for Walmart-like profit. They merely struggle to make a living through subsistence selling. They want some food on the table, if electricity and good healthcare are this clearly far-fetched!
If that is not striking enough, think of how much money the big hotels of Kairaba Beach, Senegambia Beach, Coco Ocean, etc all part of the Brikama Area Council’s tax radius bring to the corrupt government and the local municipal of the Western Division/Region.
We don’t know about you, but for us, no Gambia government official has any right to drive even new car let alone travel for per diem. Only those should travel when it is peremptory. They should also buy used vehicles, not brand new.
We “Semesters” are okay with used vehicles. Why shouldn’t our corrupt government officials who make far less money? And how dare some of them drive three different government vehicles? And we still cry of poverty when we inveterately squander and mismanage public funds?
