Is Yanks on Suicide Watch?

“I MAY NOT BE ALIVE BY NEXT HEARING!”

He Allegedly Tells Prison Undercover

Left, in uniform, Young Touray sandwiched by Singhateh and Jammeh
Highly placed sources close to The Gambia central prisons Mile II revealed Tuesday that former top junta member of the AFPRC and later cabinet member of the Jammeh administration, Mr. Yankuba Touray has just been placed on a suicide watch as this publication is written. Mr. Touray, widely called “Yanks” was recently produced at the TRRC, subsequently arrested and detained following his refusal to shed light on the murder of a former Finance Minister, Ousman Koro Ceesay two decades ago.
According to our source, Mr. Touray is placed on a suicide watch and is constantly monitored by senior prisons guards. “I can tell you that if the authorities in Banjul didn’t do something about this man [Touray] it will cause an embarrassment to the government,” an insider source stated. Touray, sources continued did not know his interlocutor was a government operative.
His alleged remarks, under any given circumstances indicate a risk for self-harm—a situation that immediately attracts suicide protocols in any institution. “Touray is not talking to any one over here and we’re told by our prisons secret police that he [just now] did in fact confide in one of the guards that hopefully by his next court hearing he may not be alive.
It could be recalled that former NIA deputy director Mr. Louis Gomez died in custody while awaiting trial on the alleged murder of political activist Solo Sandeng. The Circumstances that led to his death were not forthcoming even though a panel was hastily setup to look into what killed Mr. Gomez. “I may not be alive for next hearing,” were the words allegedly uttered by Touray.

This is a developing story.
