Jammeh Reportedly Happy with Mamadi Kurang for Possibly Knowing Certain Information!

Why did Peter Gomez Simp to Ba Tambadou in what was supposed to be a simple interview which Ba turned into a boring speech? Where was journalistic scrutiny, please?

Former president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh will address the nation regarding the sale of his assets by the current government, sources close to his family informed forGambia Saturday, May 10th. The sale, thanks to efforts of investigative juggernaut, Mustapha K. Darboe and his Republic has been wailed as a looting by many Gambians, raising not only a gale, but protests and arrests in the tiny West African country since last Thursday.

Jammeh, sources added, is waiting for the Barrow government to finalize its promised list of all assets and property frozen with his name. He will thenceforth come with his own list of assets. “They stole all my gold and diamonds in two different containers and transported [them] to Senegal under the directives of Macky Sall. I know all their transactions with all my items and properties,” Jammeh reportedly told a confidant.

Family sources say the former president lamented some items gifted to him from both the Arab world and other presidents on the African continent. The name of Mobutu Sese Seko, former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo was specifically mentioned by Jammeh, according to sources.

“Some of the property in the greater Banjul area were never accounted for in the commission of enquiries,” Jammeh reportedly claimed. “His bank accounts in trust bank, GTB…more than seven banks…where are all those monies? He said the tractors were never meant for him,” a confidant spoke after reportedly speaking to Jammeh Saturday. The former president also reportedly frowned at the Senegalse Kalilu Waggeh for buying his property.

However, he reportedly expressed joy when that “fellow,” referring to Kurang was fired from the commission, “I laughed,” Jammeh allegedly mentioned, adding that Kurang possibly knew a lot. Sources informed forGambia that Jammeh was happy with Kurang’s possible knowledge of certain secrets. Ba Tambadou, on Friday, told Peter Gomez he had to fire Kurang when he refused to resign.

In the early 2000s, rumors abounded in The Gambia that there was some gold from Mobutu in The Gambia. When this editor [a reporter and cartoonist at the Daily Observer then] at some point got fed up, he came with an editorial cartoon asking a rumor monger, “Come and show us where you found Mobutu’s gold in The Gambia.” Until he left Gambia, Jammeh never spoke about the alleged Mobutu’s gold.

The same sources alleged that it was the same Mobutu’s house in Morocco that was later sold to former Senegalese president Macky Sall who currently lives in it in Morocco. “Ninety percent of vehicles were transported and sold in Senegal and Guinea Bissau. Some were single-handedly given to Macky Sall as a thank-you gift for helping them depose me from power,” Jammeh reportedly told a close confidant.

Further, the Gambian former prexy lamented how Amadou samba was ushered into the Barrow State House to have a meeting with the then new government of Adama Barrow. Since that meeting, a confidant said, Amadou Samba was never put to task or challenged again. Samba later bragged that he was never Jammeh’s business partner; instead, he [Samba] was managing Jammeh.

To break things down:

  1. Justice Amina Ceesay-Saho rejected de-freezing Jammeh’s assets. The assets had to be de-frozen or made market-ready for Ba Tambadou and his associates to reportedly loot them through examples like Binta Sompo Ceesay, a would-be-bride for Ba Tambadou. Coincidence?
  1. When Justice Amina Ceesay-Saho was on leave, they duped Justice Jaiteh by not telling him that they had filed for a de-freezing case and got rejected by a judge before. Coincidence?
  1. When Justice Jaiteh granted their wish to de-freeze, a property was given to Ba Tambadou’s Binta Sompo-Ceesay. Coincidence?
  1. Ba Tambadou later married Binta Sompo-Ceesay. Coincidence?
  1. The same Binta Sompo-Ceesay participated as a sales agent for Alpha Capital Advisory, the firm given the right to sell Jammeh’s assets. Coincidence?
  1. Ba Tambadou said he knew Binta from 2010 when the latter helped rent out Ba Tambadou’s property in Bijilo. Coincidence?
  1. Ba Tambadou also reportedly enquired to get an expedited process of some application involving Binta Sompo-Ceesay for the same property. Coincidence?

On Friday, May 9th 2025, Peter Gomez allowed Ba Tambadou to spew his crap in a seemingly teleprompted philippic of what was supposed to be a simple interview. Ba was asked whether he did contact Gambia’s NHRC or MCG, two bodies that reportedly tried to spin the celebrated Mustapha K. Darboe’s toil to Tambadou’s damage control efforts. Again, instead of answering a simple yes or no question, Tambadou went on another jeremiad, completely evading the question.

Earlier in his boring “speech” of an interview, Tambadou repeatedly tried to lecture journalistic research and press timing to Mustapha K. Darboe in the latter’s apparent absence. But here is the kicker: how about simple speech, grammar and its usage first for a man who struggles with simple English trying to teach a journalist whose feat has become a volcanic forensic to posterity? During the supposed interview, Ba could be heard saying, “Verbatimly” instead of verbatim. Not all adverbs carry the usual ‘ly’, Ba. If he uttered “Verbatively,” that’s not even a word!
