THE society I am living in is the society where the poor are powerless, voiceless, and helpless, is the society where the poor lack education nothing but because of poverty and high payment of school fees, the society I am living in is the society where gender base equality is not being practiced.

It is the society that does not give the girl child right to education. It is the society that does not value the girl child, the society where people are dying everyday because of hunger, the society I am living in is the society where many youths become smokers, street beggars nothing but lack of job.

The society I am living in is the society where leaders take the law, put it in there hands as if they are the owners of the law, forgetting that rule for one is rule for all.

The society I am living in is the society where leaders take there children to high expensive schools, eating good foods while hunger is killing their citizens especially in these time of the pandemic, the society I am living in is the society where criminal offenses become a friend like rapes, corruption, tribalism and murder.

The society I am living in is the society where leaders don’t know the way, show the way, neither goes the way, while they don’t want youths and girls to serve the way in order for the country to go to the higher level while everyone will have there liberty.

WRITTEN BY Awa Camara OR AWA Da POET

Editor’s Note: Dear Little Precious Awa, almost thirty years ago in 1991, before you came into this world,  this editor was almost like you, somewhere in Brikama, writing little things for other classmates to read and share. Writing made him walk on foot from Tallinding to the Daily Observer premises in Bakau. And one day, writing put him on something called aircraft to come to America. Later in America, Americans gave this editor from poor Gambia money and awards for competing and winning among so many Americans! I pray that one day, you’ll also tell your story and fill this editor’s eyes with more tears! Just for your writing today, I’m sending you $102.00 (One hundred and two Dollars) insha Allaah!
