O thou that granteth joy and sorrow in alternation, permit us wail one who was a treasured rib of us. We beseech thee to accord her eternal peace in her final abode. Chide us not, O Allaah, if we transgress in this difficult requiem. She served not for the money, especially with a dearth of that in Gambia’s journalistic frontiers. But she persevered—her bubbly demeanor even with less friendly strangers; her jokes, smiles and banter even in the wake of camera-phobics; her poise and noise all processed her into the one and only Fatou Samba—a sister we never knew or met, but valued her resourceful ‘Semester Avenue’ especially whenever bouts of homesickness attacked! There has to be a striking reason to put this together while battling tears for someone we’ve never spoken to. That reason, perhaps is her unmatched dedication to the profession she cherished. We talked journalism. She lived it! Our little Gambia, her people, and media vanguard has lost another gem. Rest, legend!
