In the mosaic above, Omar Badjie of Mandinary Jola Kunda’s alleged lifeless body is silhouetted. We fade out the heart-touching gestures of a police woman in Gambian police uniform who seems to be wiping tears. Family believed he died in police hands before reaching hospital. It is further wailed that Badjie was mercilessly beaten to a difficult end. This has potential to be Gambia’s George Floyd moment.

Gambians took to the police station and attacked it in broad daylight Friday. “He was an active member of the village’s activities and development and we’re going to fight his cruel murder until Justice prevails.” A youth told forGambia News contacts on the ground Friday, September 26th 2025.

The youths who look distraught and angry promised they would never relent “even if they send the whole ECOMIG and the army here. We’ll all die once and for all but our brother’s death would never go in vain,” a speaker vowed.

A member of Omar’s family said the manner and cruelty they arrested him was inhumane. “They maltreated him like an animal and put him in a very inhuman and dirty cell. “My brother never died at the hospital; he was dead already before he was transported to Kanifing General hospital,” a family member was quoted saying.

Sources furthered that the arrival of the paramilitary in the village “was like drunken and gangster rebels. They’re arresting and kicking us like animals. We over heard them saying show them fire and arrest anybody you see outside.”

Meanwhile, one police officer was said to have sustained very severe injuries and was transported to RVTH for further treatment. “They tear-gassed all our community and we can’t go out right now. The Police are everywhere with heavy guns as if it’s a war zone,” another voice stated.

Another added, “The Police report on the case is not accurate. We saw how everything unfolded. ”Omar was severely tortured until blood was profusely coming out from his noise.”

Omar’s mother said he couldn’t comprehend why the Paramilitary would have the guts to tear-gassed their compound “ Are the police animals? They’ve no sympathy with our loss and I wonder if they’re drunk or on drugs”.
