President Adama Barrow’s Foni rallies have been cancelled, forGambia News was reliably informed. The NPP was supposed to have a rally in Foni last Sunday, Septemer 12th 2021. But due to low turnout anticipated for the president, the meetings were cancelled. September 23rd 2021 is being poked at for another attempt as far as the failing NPP’s last-minute and very desperate moves to get Foni are concerned.
According to natives, the corrupt and greedy president was using a pretext of visiting Foni Ndemban vocational training center, where a site was built by former president Yahya Jammeh which has been neglected for almost five years since Barrow came to power.
But when the people of the village and surrounding satellites refused to accord the president much hospitality, he sensed the humiliation and cancelled the supposed rally. The vocational center was built by Jammeh and it was almost completed, but Jammeh left office.
The second site the president targeted was the MRC-Holland Foundation in Foni Buluntu, which again, came about during Jammeh’s tenure. But Barrow, according to insiders wanted to use these site visits for campaigning in Foni, a very antagonized region he terrorized, occupied with hostile Senegalese forces, or even shot and killed natives.
The Alkalo of one of the villages was quoted as saying that even though he is the Alkalo, the people of the area have their own choice and he can’t do anything about that. Kanilai Institute for science and Technology was promised some rehabilitation by Barrow’s minister which the people of Foni never saw, indigenous observers say.
At one of the supposed venues for the president’s rallies, the people of Foni refused to undertake the usual community efforts to cut and clean the grass of the field for the president’s gathering. This was when the Alkalo of the area was approached. And the Alkalo had a wonderful response for the complaining pro-Barrow team; that he can’t force people to make a choice.
Pa Bojang
Last week, we got first-hand information that Pa Bojang, former KGI executive and relative of Yahya Jammeh who later fell out with him was entering Gambia from Senegal. Mr. Bojang, close confidants say was coming to boost support for Barrow in Foni. Pa had finally arrived in The Gambia, but hasn’t set foot in Foni yet.
And another Foni-diasporan, but very pro-Barrow just left the country recently to return back to the U.S without any news of his attempt to convince the people of Foni to support Barrow. It is during this trying period that Pa Bojang has also arrived. The past five years were a trying period for Foninkas. Now it is Barrow’s turn to suffer sleepless nights— or whoever is trying to help him win.
The people of Foni contacted this paper and said they were waiting for Mr. Bojang to see how rallying support for Barrow is going to be possible in Foni for a man who has killed their sons, sacked their family bread-winners from offices, erected military checkpoints in their land, and still continues to oppress them even after the brutal shooting and killing of Haruna Jatta, the close-range shooting of Ismaila Tamba, the house assault on Ebou Camara by a Senegalese soldier, the stealing and slaughtering of local people’s cattle and livestock among other daily infringements.
Lang Tombong Tamba
When this paper got news that Lang Tombong Tamba had declared he was going to campaign for Barrow in Foni, we contacted Lang Tombong to hear from the horse’s mouth. We will, for now, keep our conversation confidential.
We have been in close touch with the people of Foni and they are not forgiving Adama Barrow, Macky Sall, their governments, or whoever is supporting them to kill and oppress the people of Foni. We have also told you that Fabakary Tombong Jatta couldn’t help his own party win his own constituency just like Rambo couldn’t win his own little community of Bakau. And these same losers are going to help Barrow win Foni? Let the battle continue!
