Those simpletons who sometimes argue that since no one has ever witnessed Jammeh with a knife or gun, taking a Gambian life, he didn’t kill anybody. The Qur’aan didn’t say Pharoah (Fir’aun) was seen with some life taking-tool, slaughtering babies. Of course, Jammeh had people doing it, either on his orders or merely for his favors.

 Due to threats and numerous coup attempts, he became a brute against even a fly eying his throne. But it was all his fault! You don’t rule a people for decades and expect no backlash, especially if such rule’s punctuation had been deaths, disappearances, etc. This is the biggest reason term limit should be scriptural!

But Jammeh was killing Gambians, right? And the apothegm “Innocent till proven guilty” is still revered, right? He made exponentially-terrible mistakes. Infinity pokes at any attempts to enumerate them! The Jammeh-Jawara dichotomy is quite replete with the peaceful nights Jawara guaranteed Gambians, and the lack thereof in the Jammeh transcript.

But both Jawara and Jammeh guaranteed Gambia’s sovereignty—the veritable straw that broke the Senegalo-Gambian confederation’s spine. Due to jurisprudence’s adage of “innocent till proven guilty,” I’ll refrain from “Jammeh killed this and that,” until he’s proven guilty in a court of “Benechin.”

If Jammeh was killing Gambians, he will dearly pay for it. What he wasn’t doing, as unequivocal as it is, even in the grape vines, was kill Gambia. There is a difference between killing Gambians and killing Gambia! And there is no need to be cerebral with the contrast. Jammeh did one of these, if proven guilty in a court of law. But Barrow is doing both since 2017.

We have lost our country to Senegal, France, China, or even Micky Mouse as long as he’s got money to dole out. Witness and wail a Chinese fish-meal company unleashing dogs on Gambian authorities! Witness and wail our prison authorities having their vehicle tires stabbed and punctured by occupying Senegalese forces on Gambian soil?

Witness and wail our diplomatic passports sold to foreigners doing nothing to benefit Gambia or Gambians! Witness and wail our GNA soldiers treated like dogs in their own country while Senegalese forces live larger than they ever did back home! Witness a continuum of blatantly treacherous ECOMIG lease—a stretch initially slated for six months!

Witness and wail the depletion of our fish resources to the delight of intermittent scarcity and the indignation, poverty, and despair of our poor local fishermen whose breath depends on our indigenous waters. Witness and wail the destruction of our environment by foreign interest, with Faraba and Gunjur prototypes.

Witness and wail the killing of our young in Faraba when the youths rose to protect a birthright. Witness and wail the killing of Haruna Jatta for merely exercising a constitutional right—the same right we all wanted Solo Sandeng to enjoy, but Haruna shouldn’t.

Witness and wail the Janneh Commision white papers where the goose and gander don’t enjoy the same rights. Witness and wail Adama Barrow’s tutelage that cares less about Gambia’s prosperity and territorial integrity, but kills Gambians for protesting.

And please witness the death of a sovereign, beautiful, cute country once called The Gambia that is dying slowly with her people. Where Jammeh killed just the people, Adama Barrow is killing both the people and the country—for a country’s sovereignty is quite epithelial to its progress, peace, and prosperity!
