VICTIMS RIDING IN
PRESIDENT'S RESERVE
VEHICLE!

One Fighting for His Life at
Bwiam Hospital, Reports Say!

Kebba Sanneh, Ansumana Danso, Ousman Jobe, and Saikou Touray, all State House soldiers (State Guard officers) perished in a road accident Thursday in the village of Ndemban 75 kilometers from the  capital city Banjul, natives say.

Kebba Sanneh is in the black and white stripe shirt, Ansumana Danso is wearing the blue beret, Ousman Jobe’s white shirt is scarcely seen with a black tie while Saikou Touray dons the red tie in the above individual photos.

Eye witnesses say the vehicle carrying the five actually somersaulted causing bodies to be strewn in the area shown in the picture after which crowds and mourners were seen rushing to.

Military sources told forGambia that President Adama Barrow had already passed the town of Busumbala in the Western Region around 10am the same day on his way from Banjul to Mankamang Kunda. He was in Banjul to visit the flood damages according to earlier reports.

But the president, who usually travels with a reserve presidential car had the second vehicle coming from servicing. The vehicle had some tire repair needed to be done. The perished officers were trying to catch up with the convoy that was already gone when they met their ill fate.

Meanwhile, a fifth officer (last name Bahoum) is believed to be in a critical condition at the Bwiam Hospital at the time of writing this sad news. We continue to pray for the victims and their families.

In 2020, patriotic Gambians in various countries around the globe contacted forGambia news for a broadcast featuring an NGO striving to minimize road fatalities in the smallest country in mainland Africa and one of the smallest in the world.

We gave them air time. However, one of its founders, a police officer in The Gambia got transferred from the Kombos to the provinces. According to this NGO, Gambia, at that time ranked number 8 in the whole world for fatal road accidents. It ranked 4th the last time this medium spoke to experts about the same theme in 2021.

But here is a country with a disinterested leadership, yet the most corrupt in our history where $42 million has just been squandered by one individual for a supposed Banjul road rehabilitation the true form of which the impoverished nation is yet to behold.

The United States embassy at some point warned its citizens to be wary of night driving in The Gambia or driving under certain conditions. We at forgambia recommend the following:

  1. Let the gov’t keep special data on all road accidents
  2. Let a very special record be kept on where, when, who, why, or what type of road condition has the highest cases of fatalities.
  3. What type of drivers are involved and a thorough data on how they were issued licenses, who issued them the licenses, etc.
  4. Although Gambia is tiny, there  is an influx of foreign nationals. We need a record on the nationalities of every driver involved in an accident.
  5. This medium was ready to donate laptops to the said NGO just for the above.
