Our sources say a Senegalese gendarmerie’s hand has been destroyed by a blast from a bomb he prepared to discharge on Friday’s protesters. We have been furnished with a video of the said soldier whose hand appeared to have suffered a serious disconfiguration, with blood oozing out of dismembered tissues. (See video below)
More streets roar in flames as others darken with billowing smoke while traffic completely stops in most business areas, especially, Medina, Mbour, Capskiring, Ziguinchor, Touba, and other areas not covered. French-owned businesses including supermarkets and gas stations were set ablaze or looted.
Since yesterday, we received unconfirmed reports that First Lady Mariam Faye Sall has fled to Touba. The Senegalese president left her in the country, locals say, as he fled to France again. We have not verified those reports.
Some media houses covering the mass uprising had their internet supply cut off by the Senegalese authorities as TFM and RTS, considered to be pro-government refused to cover the events fairly. More and more citizens, especially on social media frown and call, “brûler TFM,” meaning “burn TFM!”
Macky Sall and Youssou Ndour are very close. Other Senegalese social observers and commentators say it is the likes of Macky and Youssou that Senegalese are suffering the poverty they suffer when France takes their resources and support dictators and elites who are in bed with them.
Several deaths have been reported in Senegal, so far, with the first casualty occurring in Bigiona. The multitudinous presence of very young Senegalese in this uprising has stunned both the gov’t and Senegalese media.
As the soldier was being escorted to the nearest help, voices could be heard saying, “Allaahu Akbarr!” Our sources also furnished us with information that Macky Sall had called his juniors in Senegal in a desperate attempt to calm the indignant multitude.
Jubilant protesters question the professionalism and expertise of the soldier losing his hand to his own grenade. We received audios questioning the training of such a security personnel who couldn’t properly discharge his own weapon he was throwing at the masses.
“Please do whatever you can to calm the situation,” Sall was quoted this morning. He was believed to have been on the phone with Senegal’s minister of interior and some judicial barons. We were tipped that the Senegalese president is extremely scared.
In another development, reports say Ousmane Sonko was approached by the Senegalese authorities and offered a deal of release. Being the revolutionary icon he is known for, Sonko reportedly refused to budge unless other detainees are released.
Former Dakar Mayor, Khalifa Sall who was at one time imprisoned by Macky Sall was joined by social commentator Bartholomey Diaz in the streets of Dakar in a peaceful march with the masses.
They were both denied marching rights as barricades were put in front of them by police, who later said the mayor could go all by himself without any crowd or additional person. Diaz was stopped in the middle of the road and blocked from moving further.
The United States Embassy in Dakar, meanwhile, has issued an alert about Friday’s disturbances. The warning mentioned March 3rd, march 4th, March 5th as days of potential protests in Dakar. Our sources continue to monitor the situation throughout Senegal.
