NEXT GOV'T COMMISSION?

Ba Tambadou's resignation hits air and wire! Question remains why now? Read our next headline for answers!

Perhaps in a whirl of better-late-than never, Gambia’s troubled justice minister has resigned from office, unindependent sources say Wednesday. As is the norm in Gambian bureaucracy, we are yet to fine-tune the reasons prompting his late decision.

We have always challenged Mr. Tambadou to give good counsel to the fragile Barrow round-table, or leave the job before too late. But even the Faraba shootings and killing of three Gambian youths few years ago was one of the coffin-nails as far as Tambadou and Barrow’s rapport went.

Sources alleged Ba told Barrow to follow the law and prosecute the security personnel involved in the Faraba killings. But Barrow wanted a back-door dialogue with the people of Faraba where money and meeting some natives of prominence would be key.

Prior, Tambadou’s own sibling, Sheriff Tambadou was legally flawed by the wife of a former Jammeh intelligence guru when his personal conversation about the the NIA-9 surfaced about the detention of Yankuba Badjie and co.

Tambadou’s brother made comments seriously subjudicial about a highly sensitive on-going case. Minister Tambadou’s resignation buttons were pushed and he reacted. We chided such action as far from genuine.

But came the diplomatic passport saga. Ba really gave his family, non-diplomats, Gambia’s diplomatic passports illegally. And his response when confronted by some Gambians? “My mother is old,” and needs a visa to travel abroad. But what diplomatic job was his mother performing?

In Ba Tambadou’s brain, a non-diplomat, especially his own relatives could be given our country’s resources and opportunities undeservedly.

The Jammeh assets were seized. APRC officials told this medium how they witnessed some assets being stolen and sometimes sold in Guinea Bissau. The Jammeh tractors to the farmers ditto while the killing of Haruna Jatteh was destitute of any serious investigation.

When Barrow wanted support from the same APRC party, he said Yahya Jammeh was free to come back to Gambia. But Ba Tambadou said Jammeh can’t. We wonder whether Barrow was president or Ba was. Such has been some vignettes of Ba’s non-therapeutic relationship with his gov’t.
