Abubacar Jawara’s illegal arms trafficking was brushed under the carpet just like that. He brought a container of firearms which was discovered and seized at the Gambia Ports authority. The man is still walking free in The Gambia.

In fact, he’s held in high esteem by Adama Barrow and his government. He is also mining our black sand and exporting it overseas. Again, laptop screens and other valuable electronic merchandise are manufactured from black sand.

No country on earth takes arms trafficking lightly. But the government of Adama Barrow said Abubacar  Jawara’s intention was ok. There is no machine or art in history that reads “intention.” That’s why we focus on facts, especially those as explicit as Abubacar’s in bringing a container of illegal arms.

Think of Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 1990’s. Think of Boko Haram. Think of any group bent on anything where a gun is useful! But Adama Barrow’s gov’t is an expert in reading “intention.” And they said Abubacar Jawara’s intention about the guns was ok.

But let’s say it was the UDP or GDC that was caught with the same container of arms. Darboe would have been arrested and put in jail amid a happy smear campaign that the UDP is into removing Barrow with arms!

A criminal’s “intention” doesn’t matter. No one prosecutes “intention.” Facts and action are what brings about prosecution. ADama Barrow has been dealing with shady business people since he came to power. Think of the Kallilu Waggehs too!

Youths of Sanyang are being arrested as we type these. What has been their crime? And what was Abubacar Jawar’s crime—an international crime and an act usually committed by terrorists? Illegal arms trafficking!

But Abubacar is hero in Adama barrow’s eyes. The youths of Sanyang are the bad guys because they tell him those youths are Mandinkas and UDP supporters. Gambia, every line we write is recorded by history.

All these happening, the same Gambia Ports Authority seized containers of cocaine recently. No serious investigation has been launched by the Barrow administration. Abubacar Jawara’s guns could have missed discovery.
