In what appears to be a win for the APRC over the rejection by the National Assembly members of the new draft constitution, the Party’s leader Fabakary Tombong Jatta, thanked those MPs who voted overwhelmingly to reject the new draft constitution.
He said the 1997 constitution is a legacy for former President Jammeh but notably, it’s a national document.” As per the provisions of this draft constitution we think it’s not good enough…” Jatta posited.
Mr. Jatta was speaking at a press conference at the APRC National Political Bureau in Manjai Kunda, Tuesday morning. He said today Gambia is at a momentous period, for our country is almost at an edge. “We’re at crossroads and unfortunately it’s difficult to see light that will lead us to peace, progress and prosperity.”
Hon. Jatta further said our present predicament is as a result of the collective failure of the entire coalition leadership to allow their personal ambitions and greed to override the interest of the Gambian people.
Jatta said we’ve all witnessed the illegal actions of the coalition against APRC and APRC militants purely or solely out of odds for vengeance and full of sentiments. “We’ve also witnessed the death of Haruna Jatta and many others who died.”
Jatta also said the kafenda incident was mishandled where coalition supporters were let go and over 50 “people from all over the town where arrested including pregnant women, students and old people.” That would have warranted a very strong demonstration that may be violent, Hon. Jatta warned.
Janneh and TRRC commissions
Mr. Jatta angrily said Jammeh properties and cattle were sold even before the commencement of the Janneh commission. “With all these commissions within a short period the coalition disintegrated. No more our Barrow but Barrow is the evil, we all witnessed it.”
So, it should be very clear now to all genuine Gambians that most leaders of the coalition as per their deeds and utterances where blinded by their sentiments, emotions and unrelenting odd for vengeance”.
Hon. Jatta said good leaders must rise above sentiments, emotions and the odd for vengeance. “Good leaders through strategic thinking carved out a road map that ensures reconciliation, reparations, social justice and above all a program to ensure the socioeconomic advancement of its citizens.”
Hon. Jatta appealed to the Government to look into the plight of the NIA 9 and Hon. Yankuba Touray who has been languishing in jail for a long time. He also blamed justice minister Ba Tambedou who left government after “putting us into this mess.”
Former Speakers of Gambia’s legislature, Hon. Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay and Hon. Abdoulie Bojang were present at the press conference. The occasion was chaired by APRC Deputy Spokesperson, Dodou Jah.
The Gambian citizens have now seen the truth A P R C have done nothing absolutely wrong, only the soldiers themselves have betrayed one another but all allegations are faken lies and everyone knows about it and insallah the party will come back to power. thanks
