A circulating video has been showing Gambia’s Agric Minister, openly threatening an elected mayor of Gambia’s capital city, Banjul. We saw the video on Monday, May 12th 2025 and hope that it’s stored for the future.

It also showed the same man threatening an opposition party leader, Essa Faal. Mr. Sabally, with full-throated ease yelped that if Mayor Rohey Lowe and Essa Faal go out in the streets again [to exercise their constitutional rights to freedom of assembly or association], they will be arrested and thrown in jail.

Wait a Minute! When did a cabinet minister with an agric portfolio whose department has failed to pay our poor farmers their meagre amounts of money the gov’t has owed them since last groundnut season suddenly become a gov’t spokesperson or interior minister to announce security moves?

Demba, have you paid all the farmers in full since last groundnut season? Didn’t your useless gov’t hand out D40 million Dalasis to some useless media houses to do some stupid PR for you? Didn’t the same gov’t hand our tax payer money of D3.5 million to President Barrow’s mother for her Dakar medical trip while you owed a farmer his little bread crumbs? That particular farmer perished in a road accident while commuting back and forth, trying to get his money from you? 

Demba Sabally, how do you really sleep? Do you really have a soul? You know how hard farmers toil in Africa. Yet, you denied one of them the fruits of his toil till his death on a trip running after you? And here you’re, threatening an elected official? Do you realize you’re not elected, Demba? Do you know you can be removed anytime without any delay? But an elected official can’t? Demba,  have you been drinking?
