In the country’s D22 million budget for the year 2021, Gambia’s Adama Barrow is allocating more money to himself than our department of agriculture. The office of the president is also receiving more money than what is allocated for the country’s higher education. No wonder, students of Gambia College are now being charged school fees for the first time in our history.

forGambia News has been furnished with the Gambia’s budget earlier. We apologize for not publishing much news these days due to our super-busy schedule. 

According to the copy we have, the office of the president is receiving D663,299,315 (six-hundred and sixty-three million, two hundred and ninety-nine thousand, three hundred and fifteen Dalasis).

In the same budget, Gambia’s Agriculture Department is allocated only D402,753,336 (four hundred and two million, seven hundred and fifty-three thousand, three hundred and thirty-six Dalasis). 

Women, Children, and Social Welfare is allocated only D87,508,464 (eighty-seven million, five-hundred and eight thousand, four hundred and sixty-four Dalasis).

Agriculture and food production is not a priority for this government. Nor is combating hunger a serious concern. Every country places premium priority on local food production, unless if their land is not good for agriculture. 

Remember how Ghadaffy turned the desert into cultivable areas? Gambia doesn’t need to do that. Our land in The Gambia is very cultivable and fertile for all sorts of food production.

We would also assume that since our vice president, Dr. Isatou Touray is a woman, and a Gambian that has been fooling the Western world that she really cares about women, children, and especially the girl-child during her GAMCOTRAP days, she would fight for them in cabinet. 

She would have made sure that women, children, and social welfare receives a huge chunk of our government’s spending. But that’s not the case here!

Also, in the area of higher education, the small amount allocated is almost half of what Barrow has allocated to himself. Even Baba Leigh and his colleagues are receiving D46,443,030.

That is forty-six million, four-hundred and forty-three thousand, thirty Dalasis for doing nothing. His office is the so-called National Human Rights Commission that witnesses Gambians rights being violated.

Examples include the popular Three Years Jotna Executives who never destroyed a fly, but were merely exercising their constitutional rights. In fact they had a permit issued and they were protesting very peacefully!

Another serious human right violation has been the case of Haruna Jatta of Kanilai who was gunned down for, again, exercising a constitutional right. Another major human right violation is the case of Yankuba Touray who is protected by the 1997 Constitution.

In fact, after wasting our millions on a new draft constitution which Barrow and his paid shenanigans rejected, the same Barrow has reverted to the 1997 constitution which fully protects Yankuba Touray. But Touray’s constitutional rights are still being abused!

Below, we reproduce parts of the budget showing how corrupt this useless government has become. They will never put Gambians first. They will rather put their pockets first. Please see this for yourself and vote out these selfish devils!
