We theorized earlier that if Darboe couldn’t bring his party together, what successor could in the short or long term? Even if Talib comes back to the party before we post this article, it’s not close to a guarantee UDP alone can uproot Barrow this December.
It is beyond sad that the latest coalition talks failed and the UDP walked out again. We wrote about UDP’s predilection for such whenever the faintest call for Ousainou Darboe’s side-stepping is made.
Remember NADD in 2006? Remember the fight with Sheriff Dibba in 2001? We wrote about these and silver-lined Ousainou Darboe’s obsession with power. We don’t want to keep writing about this.
If Barrow wins this December, it’s very possible UDP will shrink to a regional party with scanty strongholds in few areas just like Jammeh’s recoiling to only Foni. UDP may lose areas of Jarra, Kiang, and Badibou as it did in past elections.
Lack of proper education has cost Gambia the critical thinking skills we sure need. Remember, our first gov’t didn’t build a single high school in its thirty years? Our second gov’t came and started killing and vanishing Gambians. The third one is destroying both Gambia and Gambians!
How can a country whose first gov’t never thought it necessary to build a single high school expect its citizens to be good critical thinkers ready for this modern age of nano-second thought processing? Of course, we are frustrated with the UDP, but never surprised! It’s just these words: COGNITION AND CRITICAL THINKING!
Dear Ousainou Darboe, we will never campaign for Barrow, God-willing! We write this from our striated cardiac cells, inflamed and gutted. We will sit and watch the UDP destroy itself. And worse, we will lick our wounds for all the sums of money we spent on an unthinking group.
If Darboe is the only human the UDP can come up with for the last thirty years? Then go on, please! Remember how we said last year that Lamin Manneh and Larre Ceesay could be better candidates? UDP, please go on! Like the Qur’aan usually tells the prophet to say “So, wait! We too are waiting with you!”
