Following a tense family meeting at former residence of Dictator Yahya Jammeh in Kanilai on the whereabouts of family members who were picked up by the jugulars and later murdered , Yahya Jammeh, Gambia’s former president angrily told his elders, including her mother that Haruna Jammeh, Marci Jammeh and Jarsaja Kujabi were jailed at mile two for conniving with his enemies to overthrow his government, strong sources say.
“Look, it was this the reason why you’ve demanded to meet me? This is my government. I don’t want to entertain such meetings anymore,” Jammeh allegedly told family. His mother, late Asombie Bojang would interject, but Jammeh wouldn’t listen. Later, Asombie was able to calm him down and asking him to release them and give them another chance.
Jammeh would still continue ranting and went further to threaten the family members that anyone who crossed his red line would face similar consequences. Unbeknown to his family and mother, these family members [ Haruna and Jasarja] were already dead. Jammeh lied to his family that they were at mile two prisons, sources added.
Haruna Jammeh was a manager at Novotel in Kotu prior to Jammeh asking him to return home and be his farm manager. He was reluctant to accept Jammeh’s offer but family members appealed to him to take the offer. He did not know that was where his dictator brother would assign the jugulars to kill him.
Marci Jammeh was a brave lady and sister to both former president and late Haruna Jammeh, and would not hesitate to tell dictator Jammeh the truth, according to inner circle confidants. It appeared Jammeh meant it when he said any family member who brought up this issue would follow suit. This led to her death because she kept asking Jammeh to release Haruna Jammeh.
Jarsaja Kujabi, another brave man who contributed immensely towards Jammeh’s upbringing was from Dobong, a village not far from Bwiam in the Western Region. He was an Uncle to Jammeh. The real cause of his disappearance and subsequent death was sketchy but people familiar with him said he told Jammeh the truth, especially when it came to family matters.
In our next publication we’ll take a look at the Bwiam massacre in which some very respectful village elders were rounded up and killed in broad day light by the jugulars. As this publication is written, there’s huge mistrust in the Jammeh family in Kanilai and the surroundings when the jugulars revealed that their love ones were indeed killed and not sent to Mile II as Jammeh made them believe.
“Jammeh has created all this mistrust in the family and now we don’t even talk to each other in the same compound. This is very serious and if the government did not do something about this there could be bloodshed. We’re very angry at each other because Jammeh was the architect of everything. A senior elder of the Jammeh clan on the phone from Kanilai asserted.
