Quite a Knucklehead Governor as $1.98 Billion Debt Devours Poor Country’s Economy!

Sources just informed forGambia News that Buah Saidy, Barrow’s Central Bank Governor was recently in the United States, begging Gambians to invest back home. But he is mocking their counterparts in Europe.

“Earlier this year Buah was part of a large so-called government delegation touring the United States soliciting Gambians to invest back home. Also in the delegation was the former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Abdoulie Jallow,” a source stated.

On October 16th 2025, we published a story that Buah Saidy and delegation were in Washington again. Read story here: Six Barrow Officials Including Seedy Keita, Buah Saidy in Washington Again for IMF – forGambia News

Baboucarr Buoy, Minister of Public Service, Alieu Njie, Secretary General and Head of the civil service and five other officials accompanied these wastrels. Their plane tickets, per diems, and hotel fees must have taken a toll on Gambia’s weak coffers.

Saidy and his delegation knew one man could have been sent for this trip. But an entourage came for a trip that continued to bleed one of the world’s poorest countries where hospitals don’t have enough oxygen.

As if this isn’t enough, Saidy’s gov’t approved and gave his useless president D52 million for another useless tour. These are just a token of what should have been serious discussions about Gambia today.

But Saidy is attacking Gambian “Semesters”, especially those in Europe in provocative, saucy, and thoughtless remarks. He chided Gambians in Europe, muck-raking that they “don’t even have apartments two meters wide.”

Yet they sit, according to Saidy, in that poverty to call themselves journalist. A two-meter space isn’t healthy for any human habitation. Europe, no matter how bad, won’t allow such a health risk. But we will let the European ‘semesters’ mudsling with Saidy on that.

What is clear is that those Gambians in Europe don’t steal from Gambian tax payers. They work from sun up to sun down like we do here in the States. And thanks to such relentless efforts, families are able to eat back home.

If not for these “two-meter” semesters, many Gambians would die of hunger and starvation. How many jobs has Saidy’s gov’t created since its coming in 2016? But job creation is far-fetched.

Let’s look at some statistics from the IMF, World Bank, Statista, and Coface about Buah Saidy and his government’s destruction of Gambia and her children’s future in endless debt.

Gambia’s debt stood at $1.98 billion (USD) for 2024; on Jun 26th, 2025 — The Gambia’s total public debt to GDP stood at about 73.5 percent. This means for every D100 Gambia owns, over D73.00 is used to pay debt.

We did publish here that when Jawara was leaving in July 1994, Gambia’s debt was around $420 million; Jammeh added $155 million to that in 22 years; in just few years, Barrow added close to $2 billion to these fugures.

So, Jawara spent 30 years in power and only incurred $420 million; Jammeh spent 22 years and added $155 million to that. Barrow has barely spent 8 years and has added almost $2 billion. The IMF and world Bank called this a debt crisis for the tiny, impoverished nation.

But Buah Saidy won’t talk about the above. Instead, he would attack hard-working ‘Semesters’ without whom Gambia would cease to exist. This is what low-IQ does. Listening to Buah speak tells a lot about him.

This is why we get angry with Ousainou Darboe for being an obstacle between us and this irresponsible, corrupt-to-the-neck government. All we need is a unified opposition to tackle these good-for-nothings feeding off of poor tax payers sweat, thinking they’re comfortable.
