Violence from state-sent troopers erupted at the much-awaited APRC-GANU press conference at the house of Jerrending Sanyang in Lamin Monday. Our correspondents are still filing reports amid tear gas from the para-military who were sent to disperse the press conference and make arrests.

When confronted, Jerrending reportedly told the police he was going to turn himself in without any difficulty. But he was picked by police and taken away. Matarr Kujabi has sustained injuries on his legs (pictures to be published soon).

It was believed that some disgruntle elements within the former APRC executive, now dismissed by Jammeh in the open might have connived with the police and Barrow administration to bring about this clamp down on their new-found enemies. This is a developing story and more is coming.

Update:

Eye witnesses and APRC-Ganu alliance reps told forGambia that the paramilitary attacked their press conference with tear gas where some people sustained injuries. They said the group needed a permit to hold such a gathering. “No body needs any permit to hold such a gathering [press conference] in a private compound, a battered official told forGambia minutes ago.

Meanwhile, the arrested Jerrending Sanyang is being held at Banjulunding Police Station. Ganu leader Sheikh Tijan Hydara and his team are at the same police station with lawyers as we publish this. A key question we posed was who called or complained to the police about the press conference and what exactly was the complaint?

APRC-Ganu officials replied that that is the same popular question they are all asking. But an official told forGambia that they saw one ex-APRC executive nick-named “Obama,” at a curious location things were happening at which leaves Team Fabakary Tombong Jatta-Rambo Jatta fingerprints on the development. More coming as we gather pieces together!

GDC’s MC Cham Jr., Reacts:

Meanwhile, the Barrow administration’s latest acts of intimidation are being condemned by other opposition parties, including GDC’s MC Cham Jr., who quickly sent forGambia this sms: “Any member of political parties can hold a press conference of their own. They don’t need a permit on private land.”

We were also informed by high-ranking officials of the APRC-Ganu alliance that in a heart-touching show of solidarity with a counterpart against a corrupt, lying, and treacherous common enemy, the UDP had also sent two pick-up trucks to the Banjulunding Police station where Jerrending is being held currently. Barrow’s desperate and reckless actions are bringing his enemies closer.
