Insiders have informed forGambia News that things are not normal at Gambia’s Central Bank where Mr. Bakary Jammeh has been serving as Governor until President Barrow’s awkward appointment of Buah Saidy of Lamin as his replacement.

Bakary Jammeh was asked by the President to accept a new appointment as Minister of Trade which he politely declined. Again, we were tipped by insiders that Jammeh wasn’t going to accept the offer well before any local or international press ever reported it.

Since October 9th 2020, we again got tips that the situation at the Central Bank has been awkward as there has never been any official handing over of position from Bakary Jammeh to Buah Saidy.

Jammeh had clearly written recently that he wouldn’t accept the new ministerial role at Trade. Nor has the President rescinded his appointment of Buah Saidy as the new Governor of Central Bank.

This is a developing story we are not very keen on reporting, but will seek to keep you posted as more details unfold again. Stay tuned!
