Local soures say President Adama Barrow, today the 12th of November 2019 started confiscating government and parasitical vehicles for his maiden tour ‘’ Meet the People’s Tour scheduled for the 18th of November 2019. A team comprising of the CID/MILLITARY and The POLICE FORCE are tasked with an order for the confiscation of both government and parastatal vehicles. The Gambia police force at Denton Bridge in Banjul would confiscate vehicles that are in good condition and road-worthy for the scheduled tour country wide.
The exercise of seizing vehicles started in the morning at around 10:30am. The police at Denton Bridge use a mechanism of which any government vehicle coming from Banjul are stopped at Denton Bridge; first they will write the vehicle driver’s name and the government department or the parastatal of which the vehicle belongs to and then order to park at the right side of Denton Bridge coming from Banjul. This is a style used by The Barrow government for the maiden tour for the people. The Barrow led government is broke to fund the tour especially in the area of transportation.
If all could remember, this was what critics of former Jammeh government said he used to practice in seizing government vehicles for meet the people’s tour. Today, the Barrow government is doing the same. As we speak, people are complaining of this act that will hamper the-day-to-day work of government and civil service on transportation to run their official matters. President Adama Barrow is only looking for his own interest not of the workers in government and in the parastatals.
The confiscation of vehicles, according to a senior Government official is a wrong move. This government is saying that they are here to correct the wrongs of the former Jammeh dictatorial government. He said Barrow is spreading his wings to act in that line of Jammeh, because all those vehicles seized are not welcomed either by affected officials or departments heads and institution they belong to. It is wrong and unaccepted to see the same things said against the Jammeh Government. Some senior government officials are saying President Barrow is a mistake to the whole Gambia, as people are praying for his exit as soon as possible peacefully. “The Gambia is ours and we are praying for peaceful removal of a president is everybody’s business,” said a senior government official.
President Barrow and his partners are expected to start the meet the people’s tour scheduled the 18th November 2019. The Tour as proposed will start at Barra down to URR and end in the Kombos.
